Most popular places I’ve seen so far in SL are those clubs that have live events and live DJ’s that cover the U.S. evening hours from about 4pm SLT to 11pm SLT. Fiddlers at MIA Island is an example that has a club that does this, plus a nearby mall to provide shopping opportunities.
You can, of course, set up camping areas with few restrictions (best I saw was a CampMaster that paid 50L per day at 2L per 15 minutes and you had to join the group for it to work. Problem with camping chairs usually is that if something happens and you get logged off or booted, you lose the time and don’t get paid, with the CampMaster example, you got paid each 15 minutes, so you didn’t lose your accumulated funds.
Then there are the places that have stacks of camping chairs, 20 chairs by 5 rows high was one I saw, so most usually your letter came up. That place was busy.
I suppose it depends on what your goals are. To get people to the area so they see your stuff? Gotta give them a reason to come otherwise, either entertainment like music and socialization, or something really cool to look at like a fantastic build. If all you care about is generating traffic, then what you might do is, given the space, is sponsor a club or venue, supply the space and “gadgets” and let someone else bother with the running of it. Get people in and your stuff in front of them.
Yes, I know, I’m long winded……
