A new look for throwing stars around

Going through my inventory, the next item on my list is the Falling Stars. I originally made this gadget for my wife. She had a skybox on the mainland and was really into the different particles that I was working with. She asked me to make some stars shower down on her.


I ended up creating a small ball split into three prims. Each prim generated particles of a different color. Every 1 to 5 minutes, the emitter would change to a different random hue. I then set the end color to have a 33% difference. (Red turns to green, yellow to cyan, green to blue, cyan to pink, blue to red, pink to yellow).


I’ve worked with color a lot in the past with color pickers in many different langauges. I had already figured out how to get my code to determine rgb values from hsb imported over to LSL when I had worked on my particle lab.


With three different emitters changing between 6 different colors, it was a wild sight to see. Sometimes my wife didn’t want colors at all, so I added an option for her to toggle between solid white stars, and random colors.


I enjoyed watching her dance under the stars. The small ball could be hidden with a voice command and turned on and off as well.


Dragging the ball out, I saw that a lot of permissions were not setup appropriately. I reworked a lot of the code as well and made the instructions easier to access simply by touching the object or typing the help command.


I also made the object a bit nicer to look at when it is visible. I used the same three prims, but made them appear to be one inside the other. A cube containing a sphere, containing a rotating sculpty star that glows. Each prim is semi-transparent except for the star. I stuck with my signature color of blue to give it that night-time moody look.


It looks like I’ll have to recreate my product advertisement image for this object since the look of it has completely changed from the original. However, I think it is all for the better.
